Oregon Root 52 State Prayer Guide
HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE STATE OF OREGON
Oregon’s History: European exploration of the Pacific Northwest from the late 1500s through the 1700s led to multiple and overlapping territorial claims by Spain, Russia, France, Britain, and last but not least, the new American republic. At issue was the vast “Oregon Country” extending along the Pacific Coast from the northern edge of Spanish California on the 42nd parallel to the southern edge of “Russian America” (now Alaska) at 54 degrees 40 minutes north.
How this area became known as “Oregon” is not clear. Some have suggested that the word originated in the Mississippi Valley; others surmise that it stems from the French word for storm, ouragan, or the Spanish words oye agua, meaning “hear the water.” Most historical accounts agree that English Army Major Robert Rogers first wrote the term “Ouragon” in an unsuccessful 1765 petition to explore the American West. American Captain Jonathan Carver used “Oregon” to refer to the fabled “River of the West” in his 1778 book, Travels Through the Interior Parts of North America.
In 1803, Thomas Jefferson referred to “Oregon” in his instructions to Meriwether Lewis for the Lewis and Clark expedition. The name gained wide exposure and an almost mythical aura when William Cullen Bryant used the name Oregon in his poem “Thanatopsis,” published in 1817.
Most European nations had retreated from Oregon by the early 1800s, leaving only Great Britain and the United States to vie for the tract. Britain’s claim to “New Albion” dated from the late 1700s, thanks in large part to Captain George Vancouver’s expedition, and was reinforced by the traders and “factors” (agents) of the Hudson’s Bay Company. The pendulum swung toward the American position after Captain Robert Gray crossed the Columbia bar on May 11, 1792, followed by the 1804-1806 Lewis & Clark expedition and the establishment of Fort Astoria in 1811. When the War of 1812 was settled at Ghent on December 24, 1812, Britain and the U.S. agreed to form a joint commission to resolve boundary disputes. One result of that agreement was the Treaty of Joint Occupation of Oregon, signed on October 20, 1818. American and British citizens in Oregon then went about their business, mostly without incident. The joint occupancy treaty was renewed in 1827. During this period of cohabitation, British and American citizen groups met often to discuss mutual needs and grievances. The most important of these church & civic gatherings were the “Wolf Meetings” at Champoeg on the lower Willamette River. On May 2, 1843, a vote of 52 to 50 favored a decision to organize into a civil community. On July 5th, this group adopted Oregon’s first Organic Laws.
After four India Chiefs walked 3000 miles on foot to St Louis in search of the “Book of Heaven” in their language, this story launched the “Macedonian Call of the West” and Americans streamed into the Oregon Country as Great Britain’s influence began to wane. Some extremists chanted “54-40 or Fight,” demanding that U.S. territory extend north of the 54th parallel. Despite this pressure, in the Oregon Treaty of June 15, 1846, the United States agreed to the 49th parallel, which established national boundaries “westward of the Rocky Mountains.” Although the boundary issue appeared to be settled on land, disputes continued for nearly 30 years regarding which was the main channel of separation between American and British islands. The San Juan Islands boundary dispute was finally settled in 1872.
When Indians in what is now Eastern Washington killed settlers led by missionary Marcus Whitman in 1847, pressure increased on the federal government to provide protection and order in the region. Congress passed the “Act to Establish the Territorial Government of Oregon” on August 14, 1848. Abraham Lincoln declined the territorial governorship and the job went to General Joseph Lane, fresh from the Mexican War. His hanging of five Indians accused in the “Whitman Massacre” signaled that law (if not justice) was finally being imposed in “Oregon Country.” In 1853, Washington Territory split off from Oregon. Oregon and Washington were admitted to the union and became states in 1859 and 1889 respectively.
After a 100+ years of prayer, Pastor Aaron Auer of Reviving Oregon’s Amazing Roots discovered “Oregon First Pulpit Bible” in 2008 and has since then traveled to all 36 Counties of the State of Oregon declaring the Christian Heritage of the Oregon Territory. (See www.roaroregon.org/ceremony.shtml for a short video of his presentation at the State Capital in Salem for the 150th Anniversary Celebration of Oregon’s statehood on February 14, 2009.)
Oregon’s Constitution: Article 1, Section 2: states that “All men shall be secure in the Natural right, to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences.”
Oregon’s State Flag: The Oregon state flag, adopted in 1925, is navy blue with gold lettering and symbols. Blue and gold are the state colors. On the flag’s face the legend “STATE OF OREGON” is written above a shield, which is surrounded by 33 stars. Below the shield, which is part of the state seal, is written “1859,” the year of Oregon’s admission to The Union as the 33rd state. The flag’s reverse side depicts a beaver. Oregon has the distinction of being the only state in The Union whose flag has a different pattern on the reverse side. The dress or parade flag has a gold fringe, and the utility flag has a plain border.
Oregon’s State Seal: The state seal consists of an escutcheon, or shield, supported by 33 stars and divided by an ordinary, or ribbon, with the inscription “The Union.” Above the ordinary are the mountains and forests of Oregon, an elk with branching antlers, a covered wagon and ox team, the Pacific Ocean with setting sun, a departing British man-of-war signifying the departure of British influence in the region and an arriving American merchant ship signifying the rise of American power. Below the ordinary is a quartering with a sheaf of wheat, plow and pickax, which represent Oregon’s mining and agricultural resources. The crest is the American Eagle. Around the perimeter of the seal is the legend “State of Oregon 1859.” On September 17, 1857, the Constitutional Convention adopted a resolution that authorized the U.S. president to appoint a committee of three-Benjamin F. Burch, L.F. Grover and James K. Kelly-to report on a proper device for the seal of the state of Oregon. Harvey Gordon created a draft, to which the committee recommended certain additions that are all incorporated in the state seal.
Oregon’s State Motto: “She Flies With Her Own Wings” was adopted by the 1987 Legislature as the Oregon state motto. The phrase originated with Judge Jessie Quinn Thornton and was pictured on the territorial seal in Latin: Alis Volat Propriis. The new motto replaces “The Union,” which was adopted in 1957.
Oregon’s Native Americans: Population estimate: 52,000 in 5 reservations, wherein there are Ten federally-recognized tribes: Burns Paiute Tribe, Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, Confederated Tribes of Siletz, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reser-vation, Coquille Indian Tribe, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians, Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone (Nevada, Oregon) Klamath Tribe & one federally-recognized tribal community: Celilo Village, located near The Dalles.

OREGON’S REVIVAL HISTORY & FUTURE
The Portland Revival (March 1905): Envision a typical busy workday in the Rose City’s downtown core suddenly coming to a halt at midday. Thousands of employees and customers alike stream out of Nordstrom, NikeTown, the KOIN Center, and hundreds of other businesses and make their way to the Keller or Schnitzer auditoriums or any number of other venues. They go with a single-minded purpose. To spend time hearing about Jesus Christ. To listen to His Word. To devote their hearts to God. Sound improbable or impossible? Change the names of the businesses and the meeting locations to what they were 100 years ago, and you have a true story that took place in Portland, Oregon in 1905. It happened that spring, an outgrowth of a worldwide revival that began in Wales, and it is more than well documented. A Portland woman, Hildene Westerlund, today readily shares the newspaper clippings of that era that she has collected. She contacted the Christian News Northwest in hopes of reminding readers that the events of a century ago indeed took place in a city not known today for its devotion to Jesus. “Army of Christians Marches About City,” proclaimed the top of the Oregon Journal newspaper’s front page of Friday, March 31, 1905. “At Midnight Nearly Ten Thousand People, Singing Hymns, Proclaim the Power of Revival.” The Page 1 story detailed that it was “the unique night of Portland’s history – a shaking up such as the town had never known before.” In a front-page editorial of that same issue, Edgar Hill of the Journal stated that the demonstration by the city’s believers was “the most impressive evidence of the strength, unity and aggressiveness of Christ-ianity in Portland that could possibly have been given … The city is in the throes of a religious upheaval such as it has never known in all its history.” And the fervor continued. Five days later, on April 5, the Journal’s front page headline was “City Asks for Grace.” The accompanying story told how daytime business came to a literal standstill in the city while masses of people elbowed into four of the city’s largest auditoriums, or stood outside – as thousands did. Largest gatherings were at the Marquam Grand Theater. “To the Christian the services were, as (visiting evangelist) Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman put it, “a foretaste of heaven,” reported the newspaper. “To the outsider they formed a marvelous exhibition of what an old-fashioned religious revival can accomplish when once it is in motion. “Jew and Gentile, Catholic and Christian, believers and unbelievers, met together and sang together.” Revival historian, J. Edwin Orr records that in Portland, 240 major stores closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day to enable people to attend prayer meetings. The store owners signed an agreement so that no one would cheat and stay open. Portland was not the only location in the United States touched by God’ s Spirit in an unusual way in 1905. For example, at Yale University, 25 percent of the student body was enrolled that year in prayer meetings and in Bible study. In Atlantic City, N.J., out of a population of 50,000, there were only 50 adults left unconverted, according to the city’s clergy. According to Orr, the Welsh revival began as a movement of prayer and swept through Britain, Scandinavia, Germany, North American, Australia, Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Chile. The Portland outpouring, while seen as a sovereign move of God, was assisted by the presence in the city of a team of evangelists led by Chapman, a New York Presbyterian. Among his group of 21 “moral crusaders” who arrived on the Southern Pacific railway were John P. Hillis, Rev. Henry Ostrom, Clarence B. Strause, R.A. Walton, W.E. Biederwolf, J.L. McComb, Charles Stelzle and Fred Butler. Many of them had been influential in a similiar move of God in Denver, Colo., and they came to Portland with great expectations of something similar happening here. “Famous Revivalists Come to War with Flesh and Devil,” headlined the Journal on March 22, upon the evangelists’ arrival. The subhead read, “J. Wilbur Chapman Urges People to Get Ready to Be Saved.” The meetings were held in a wide range of denominational churches locally, including First Presbyterian, Centenary Methodist, Sunnyside Congregational, Calvary Baptist, Forbes Presbyterian Salvation Army and more. The newspaper reported that at least 50 churches throughout the city flew huge banners to indicate their support in the evangelistic effort. “Chapman Campaign for Souls is in Full Swing,” proclaimed the March 24 edition of the Journal’s competition, The Oregonian. In preparation for the evangelists’ meetings, about 100 cottage prayer meetings were held in the home of some prominent Portland residents. Considering the heavily secular nature of today’s daily newspapers, a scan of the headlines in Portland’s newspapers published during the revival meetings clearly shows a different attitude prevailing in the 1905 newsrooms regarding the things of God. “Revival Spirit Spreads Over City,” “Fighting the Devil,” “Say Goodbye to God and You Surely Die,” “Religion Vital as Blood in the Veins,” “With Help of God Will Follow Jesus,” “World Revival is Now at Hand” “Men and Women Go Weeping to Altar” “What Salvation Means to People,” “Be Sure Your Sins Will Find You Out,” and “Bible’s Message to the Everyday Man” were just a few examples of the dozens of newspaper articles that outlined the revival ‘s day-to-day events. Now in her 80s, Westerlund developed an interest in the Portland revival through a course on historic revivals that she took in Bible college. She also had heard reports about the Portland event through local churches. She said the evangelists targeted their efforts to middle-age business men who otherwise had no interest in church. Her personal interest in seeing people reached for Christ was shown in her work as a Sunday School teacher to local children whose parents worked in shipyards during World War II, and also when she served as a secretary for Billy Graham’s 1950 crusade in Portland. Her hope is that remembering what happened a century ago in Portland might prompt a new generation to pray for a similar move of God in the Rose City. “I can tell that the Last Days are near,” she said. “I just want to be a tool to be used by God to reach more people for Him.” (By John Fortmeyer, Christian News Northwest, May 2005)
John G Lake (May 1920 on Mt Tabor in Portland, Oregon): “To my amazement, on approaching the building, high in the atmosphere a half a mile or more, I discerned millions of demons, organized as a modern army. There were those who apparently acted as shock troops. They would charge with ferocity, followed by a wave and yet another wave and yet another wave. After a little while I observed there operated a restraining influence that constituted a barrier through which they could not force themselves. With all the ingenuity of humans at war, this multitude of demons seemed to endeavor to break the barrier or to go further, but were utterly restrained. In amazement, I said to the Angel, ‘What does it mean?’ He said to me, ‘Such is the care of God for those that strive in unselfishness for His Best.’ I discerned the heart of the Angel was overburdened. In answer to this the Angel said, ‘Human selfishness and human pride have consumed and dissipated the very glory and heavenly power that God once gave from heaven to this movement as you have beheld tonight.’ We were now at the foot of the pathway again. He took a step or two away and in a sort of despair, my heart cried out, ‘Angel, these are all struggling for want of an ideal. What constitutes real Pentecost? What ideal should be held before the minds of men as the will of God exhibited through a movement like this?’ During all this time I had carried my Bible in my hand. Reaching for the Bible, he opened to the book of Acts, ran his finger down over the second page, that portion where the Spirit of God came down from heaven. Proceeding through the Book of Acts to its great, outstanding revelations and phenomena, he said, ‘This is Pentecost as God gave it through the heart of Jesus. STRIVE FOR THIS. CONTEND FOR THIS. TEACH THE PEOPLE TO PRAY FOR THIS. For this, and this alone, will meet the necessity of the human heart, and this alone will have the power to overcome the forces of darkness.’ As the angel was departing, he said: PRAY. PRAY. PRAY. Teach the people to pray. Prayer and prayer alone, much prayer, persistent prayer, is the door of entrance into the heart of God.”
Cindy Jacobs (July 23, 1997 at City Bible Church in Portland, Oregon): “…And the Lord would say to this city, “Have I not given you anointing to heal nations, and from this place” says God, “I’m going to raise up a strong prayer tower. I’m going to raise up the watch that will come from this city. The anointing from this watch will be the anointing to break New Age. I’m going to bring forth an anointing from this city, I’m raising up intercessors, I’m raising up prophets, and the Word of the Lord will come forth.” The Lord says, “I will tear down the idolatry to the occult, I will tear down the idolatry to humanism and the word will go out in the Spirit that no longer will this be a haven for New Age,” says God, “because I’m going to turn it around, and I’m going to show forth my glory, because I am getting ready to manifest myself as the God of glory in this city.” “I’m going to release a river of miracles. I’m going to release signs and wonders. I’m going to release creative miracles, I’m going to cause limbs to grow where there are no limbs, eyes to be grown where there are no eyes,” and God says, “I will even astound the medical profession,” and the Lord says, “there will even be a day, that you will see doctors line the platform and you will see them come, and you will see the crutches pile up and you will see the wheelchairs and the stretchers.” “For I am doing a new thing,” says God, “and I’m pouring out upon this generation, not just in one church, but I say upon the church of Portland, and the surrounding areas. I’m going to cause my name to be glorified and people will come from the nations and they will come from far and wide to receive the impartation for the miraculous. And,” says the Lord, “I’m going to begin to impart the anointing for signs and wonders and miracles.” And the Lord says to you, “You have come hungry, and you have said, ‘where is the God of Elijah?'” And the Lord says, “I will pour out the ‘Elisha anointing’ upon this generation of leaders [a double anointing]” And the Lord says, “I will astound, I will astound the wisdom of the wise, and I am going to release a mixture of the prophetic, I’m going to release a mixture of miracles,” And the Lord says, “I will cause this city to be a city of refuge, I will cause this city to be raised up as a standard. It will be on CNN news, it will be in Newsweek International,” and the Lord says, “I am raising up a standard and from this place, I am going to not only heal bodies, but I’m going to heal this city,” says the Lord, “I’m going to heal the economy, to make out of this city a model that many people from governments, city governments from around the United States will be flying in because I am causing a new anointing to come on this city,” and the Lord says, “they will marvel because I’m going to be glorified in city government, I’m going to be glorified in the health and human services, I’m going to be glorified in the social services,” and God says, “look and see what I’m going to do because I am going to reverse the order,” and the Lord says, “I’m going to put the government upon my shoulders and the lawgiver will go forth out of Zion,” says God. And the Lord says, “Watch and see for anything you dream is too small. Anything your believe, I can do with this city is too small,” says God. And the Lord says, “In this next few months you’re going to begin to see even signs in the heavens. I’m going to show dramatic things,” says God, “to display my glory.” And the Lord says to you, “I’m going to start exporting this around the world,” says God “and you’re going to go forth from this place with healing in your hands for I am going to rise with healing in my wings, I’m going to heal the education system, I’m going to heal the legal system, I’m going to transform this city,” says God “and I’m going to use it as a model for America and the nations.” …Over Portland we prophesy the miracles. We say, “The trumpet of the Lord is going forth in Jesus Name.” The Lord says, “Isn’t this why Satan has come to devour and isn’t this why the thief has come to steal, kill and destroy?” “Do not be confounded by the increase of the warfare against you. Do not be confounded because Satan is trying to discourage your soul. He has caused the accuser of the brethren to rise up even against you that are in renewal. There have even been those of your own household, those of the brethren that have said, ‘I will not walk with you, if you walk that way.'” But I would say to you, “Trust and obey,” because I say that, “I am raising up a leadership such as the earth has not seen before,” and the Lord says, “it will go forth in writing, it will go forth via satellite link up and I’m going to raise up that mighty house, I’m going to raise up prayer and healing schools – not just from one church, but it’s going to be spread across this city, and people will come in and they’ll say no, I’m not just going to go here, I’m going to go there,” and the Lord says, “I’m going to do it so many places in this city, that the devil can’t stamp it out.”
Cindy Jacobs (March 2003 at City Bible Church in Portland, Oregon): And the Lord would say to the city of Portland, “Surely, I am going to fill you with My praises…I am going to saturate you with my praises.” The Lord would say, “there is going to be a day and one day and I would say to you…Can a city be born in a day? and I would say, Yes a city can be born in a day. For there is a day when worshippers will go up and down the river in boats. There is a day that we will stand on street corners. They will fill Vancouver, Salem, Gresham and Portland. I am going to fill the streets with my praises…not just in a March for Jesus but I am going to put a canopy over this area,” says God “and I as I begin to pavilion over this area,” says the Lord. “There is going to be a time of unprecedented harvest such as you can never imagine. For I am getting ready to come as the Great Harvester of the earth. I am getting ready to come for there are multitudes in the valley of decision.” So the Lord says, “Look and see. For there is a turning of the page today. There is turning of the new season today. And I am rising up in your midst,” says the Lord.
Gwen Shaw (January 2007 in Washington, DC): “Yea, the Lord says, if thou has faith, as a mountain shall be laid down before you and become as nothing. And thou shalt see thy glory come through thy city as in the days of John Lake, and where I used the city in those days for signs, wonders and miracles, as I use it again says the Lord, in the days of William Branham, when I called out in those meetings, My servant TL Osborn and his wife Daisy. I will walk through the streets of Portland one more….(anointing STRONG)….one more time. Even now, My angels are recording the names of those that are hungry of heart, whose souls are searching after Me, not for man’s honor, not for man’s greatness, nor for man’s recognition, but for the glory of God. To be a city of visitation, where the Lord can indeed come through thy streets and where the children shall rise up and cry, Hosanna to the Son of David. And thou shall see that thy city become even an Eastern gate to the nation, though it is in the west, but I say an eastern gate, because it was through the eastern gate that I entered the city of Jerusalem, saith the Lord, and I’ll move in your midst, and I shall shake Portland, Oregon with My Glory. And refuge…..(heavy anointing)….refugees shall flee from the north…(praying in the Spirit)…they shall come from a northern city, to flee to thy city for refuge. Be thou therefore prepared, for the influx thou shall have. For the Lord said, it shall be beyond thy imagination, the Lord says, this thing is of Me, be equipt saith the Lord, spiritually and physically, for the thing for which I am about to do. Have your watchmen on the walls yea, even the places your walls are weak, put them there, so that they might be ready and STAND WITH YOUR SWORD GIRDED AT YOUR SIDE, AT ALL TIMES. Leave Me with one hand with the tools of the trade, and in the other hand with the sword of the Lord.”
Denny Cline (July 15, 2010 at Jesus Pursuit Church in Albany, Oregon): I believe this is what I saw. This is the kind of revival that’s going to come – where God begins to simply arrest people with His presence. It’s not about a series of meetings, or an anointed catalyst, although there may be those kinds of things happening. When I looked at you (Kay Tolman of Restoration Gateway Ministries), I was reminded of a man that I met over at the Hebrides Islands, who has a seventeen year old boy who was in intercessory prayer along with some elderly women, interceding for revival to come to the Hebrides Islands. In the kind of revival that came, God was simply arresting people with His power all over the area. One here, one there. People would get up in the middle of the night. “What’s wrong?” “I’ve got to find God. If I don’t find God, I’m going to perish.” I believe that that’s the kind of revival that’s going to happen. Let’s agree with these guys. We’re going to pray right now. I want you to stand with me and agree. We need this for the whole Northwest. We don’t care where it starts! Who cares where it starts, as long as we all get it! Let it spread! Let it be like days of old when Charles S. Price went up and down the northwest corridor. And it wasn’t just him – people like T. L. Osborn, Kathryn Kuhlman, William Branham, and all kinds of people. That was a healing movement. But God wants to do something that’s an all saints’ revival that really is not about personalities, like Bobby [Haaby] said, but it’s really about the Body of Christ. And we see a real move of God that shakes the whole Northwest and then begins to shake the whole nation. And so Lord, we pray that You answer the cry of their heart, as they are in the secret place crying out, and then they go and release the sound of revival in Pioneer Square (for Praying4Portland in downtown Portland at 7am on 10/10/10). Lord, Oregon territories were pioneered by men and women of God who risked their lives with the gospel to establish this whole territory as a place where Jesus Christ would be known as Lord and Savior of all. And so Lord, we proclaim that that’s true. We thank you for that heritage. We thank You Lord, that You come again and that You remember Your mighty acts. They say, “Remember Your mighty acts in Oregon. Do it again, Lord! Do it again, Lord!” There are men and women who were nobodies at one time and now we know them in history books. But at that time they were just men and women who risked their lives for the gospel. The pioneer – a move of God in this state, and in this whole region called the Oregon Territories. And we say, Lord, as the sound is released, we want to see it this year, 2010. Let an awakening begin! Let it begin, Lord! Let the sound be released and let it begin in the Oregon Territories again. Let awakening, awakening, awakening, awakening be released, in the name of Jesus! A kind of a God awakening that arrests people as they’re going to the marketplaces, they’re going to their jobs, as they’re going to their homes, as they’re sitting at tables as families – sudden restoration and reconciliation in families, the key to revival. Family upon family, Lord. One here, one there. But then all of a sudden, people are walking in the bars, with the presence of God. People are going, “What are you doing here? You don’t belong.” And you say, “Well, I just came to visit,” and the power of God will fall, even in the bars, and it’ll fall in the schools, it’ll fall in the businesses, it’ll fall in the streets. We agree with them in the name of Jesus for a mighty release of power and a great awakening, in Jesus’ name. Thank you, Lord.”
Jim Moore (August 17, 2010 for the Salem House of Prayer): Recently, following the Raindown Conference we did on August 6-8, 2010, I was given 2 consecutive dreams, in which I was shown a season that I believe we are about to enter into. In the first dream I saw an angel of the Lord. He was standing facing me and had his hand extended out to his side. He was drawing my attention to a small group of believers that I could not see but knew were there. Then he said: “Behold the sound of ‘Just Letting Go'”. There were 4 things I instinctively knew in the dream. I knew this group of people to be a worship band. That they represented the developing global worship movement. That the name of their band was not just a name, but a principle. That this marked the next phase of the fulfillment of the Lords promise to release “a new sound” into the earth through His church. The second dream happened a day later. In it I saw a clock that was on military time. The kind that has 4 digits such as: 08:00 hours or 23:00 hours, etc. The time on the clock was 42:11 (which is not possible in the natural as we have only 24 hours in the day). I was wondering at the time, and suddenly understood that it was Isaiah 42:11. I understood that now we are about to enter into “military time” and that Isaiah 42 would give clarity to what that meant. Isaiah 42:11-16 lays out a strategy of the Lord that is based around singing a new song, that will release a new sound. That sound will act as a weapon against His enemies. The Lord will begin now to rise up as a man of war. When I awoke it was 4:21 am. The 2 dreams were intended to be connected. They are both speaking of the same primary issue of a new sound. I do not know all the nuances of this sound, how it will come to pass and all that it will entail. Many promises have been given about a new sound, especially here in the North West. In the construction of Isaiah chapter 42, verses 1-9 contain primarily what has come to pass through the earthly ministry of Jesus. It is a well know Messianic passage of Yeshua “My Servant, whom I uphold, My Chosen One in whom I delight” (verse 1). Verse 10 is where we are right now, and verses 11-20 are what is yet to come. In verse 9, it is as if the Spirit declares “see what I’ve done? Now I’ll show you what I’m going to do”. Then in verse 10, the Spirit speaks of something that is currently happening in our time. Singing a new song. In verse 9 he states “a new thing” and then in verse 10 says “a new song”. The connection is obvious. Now the time of singing has come, as it is prophetically stated in Song of Songs, “The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” SOS 2:12. The king challenged the bride to rise up, for the season of singing is upon you! Singing to the Lord is powerful. Demons hate it. God is moved by it. God is raising up a sound of worship like nothing ever heard before in the earth. The turtle-dove is singing. God’s Dove (the Holy Spirit) is singing through God’s Bride (the Church). Singing is becoming more and more a new sound, a prophetic and spontaneous sound. That sound will eventually fill all the earth. That’s the plan of God. It’s a simple plan. He inhabits praise. He wants to inhabit all the earth. So make all the earth a place of praise. If God inhabits praise, and He intends on making the entire earth a place of His habitation, then all the earth will be filled with the sound of His praise. This is the global worship and prayer movement. All the earth will literally become His House of Prayer. He said “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations” (Isa 56:7, Matt 21:13). To God, praise and prayer are two streams that flow out of the same fountain. The “harp and bowl” that has gone on in heaven throughout eternity still goes on today. People as individuals are God’s House. Churches are called God’s House. Cities are His House. Nations are His House. Ultimately the entire planet will be His House. It will be on earth as it is in heaven. The House of God, a House of Prayer. Verses 11-20, speak of what the release of this new sound will accomplish in the earth. Praise will fill all the earth, routing all the powers of the enemy. The simplicity of the plan is based on the power of agreement with God. The greatest power in all the earth is to agree with God. To agree with who He says He is, and to agree with what He says He will do. Worship is agreeing with who God says He is. Intercession is agreeing with what God says He will do. Agreement with God systematically uproots and cancels out agreement with the enemy. The enemy is called “the accuser” of the brethren. Agreement with God cancels out the effects of the accusation of the enemy. He accuses day and night. He accuses us to God. He also accuses God to us. He does this without ceasing. Jesus will answer that day and night accusation with day and night worship and prayer. That agreement with God will ultimately cancel out every accusation of the enemy.
PRAYER GUIDE FOR THE ROOT 52 WEEK
(Thanks to Mildred Yamasaki, Kay Tolman & Lynn Hare)
Repentance: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14
Rejection of Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Additional Prayer Focus – Family Mountain)
“But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers–their treachery against me and their hostility toward me, which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies–then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.” – Lev 26:40-42
Lord, You sought for a man among the city who would make a wall and stand in the gap before You on behalf of the land, that You should not destroy it. We stand in the gap and seek forgiveness. We ask, Lord, according to all Your righteousness, that Your anger and fury would be turned away from Oregon. We confess that because for our sins and for the iniquities of our fathers, Oregon has become a reproach to all those around us. Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servants, and our supplications, and for the Your sake cause Your face to shine; incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name. For we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies. O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.
All forms of personal sin and idolatry (Additional Prayer Focus – Family Mountain)
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” Col 3:5-11
Father, forgive us for putting the pursuit of material possessions above the needs of our spouses and our children and for pursuing self-fulfillment above self-sacrifice in our families. Forgive us Lord, for the excessive consumption of the earth’s resources while Your children in many parts of the world are dying of hunger, AIDS, and other diseases. Forgive us for our sexual sins and for participating in the sexualizing of our culture by the movies we watch, the clothes we wear, and the sites we visit on the Internet. We repent for and ask You to remit the sins of Oregon. We ask forgiveness for sins of sexual perversion. Renew in us a commitment to sexual purity and to holiness. We confess the unholy acts of our state, including abortion, gang violence, suicide, and freemasonry. We believe and receive for renewed life here and now. Please expose every evil plot against our city and nation. Holy Spirit, let Your power and presence prevail. Touch the heart of the body of Christ in Oregon to be a light that sits upon a hill in this country. Stir the hearts of every Christian to represent Your love, forgiveness and grace in our daily living. Give us the courage and joy to stand for holiness and righteousness.
Not forgiving others (Additional Prayer Focus – Family Mountain)
“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Mt 6:14-15
Loving Father, forgive us for our own personal sins of not forgiving others. Show us how to be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as You through Christ have forgiven us. Bring to our remembrance those we need to forgive. Holy Spirit show us the faces of people we need to forgive. “God, I forgive ________ (name of people).” Lord, we trust that as we extend Your forgiveness to others, you are healing us here and now.
Any area of resistance or unbelief in God or His kingdom (Church Mountain)
“Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.” Mt 21:31-32
Father, please forgive us for our acts of sinfulness, including oppression, greed, racism, sexism, ageism, elitism, deceit, lying, selfish ambitions, lawlessness, rebellion, violence, hatred, partiality, and slander. Father, please have mercy upon us and do not take Your Holy Spirit from us. We need You. You are our strong tower; without You we will perish.
Not walking in a spiritual act of Worship (Church Mountain)
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Ro 12:1-2
Forgive us Lord, for placing loyalty to our land above loyalty to Your Kingdom advancing in every nation. On this day, we ask You to create in us, as believers, as Your Church in this state, and as Your Church in this nation, a clean heart, Oh God, and renew a right spirit within us. We come today to humble ourselves, pray, seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways so that You, Lord God, can heal our land. We believe and receive for Your healing touch – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Lead and guide us, giving us wisdom and discernment in all we do. Your words are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Touch our state with miracles of your wondrous healing. Since Your Spirit, who raised Jesus from the dead, dwells in us, we declare that You will also give life to our mortal bodies through Your Spirit who dwells in us. Lord, we claim this Word over the State of Oregon. We are thankful for the healing of Jesus Christ: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Not Walking in Sincere Love (Church Mountain)
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” Ro 12:9-13
Holy and Righteous Father, forgive us as a state for our many sins. We admit institutional and personal acts of sinfulness. Wash us clean from our guilt and purify us from our sins. Forgive us for the times when our words have not matched our actions. We ask forgiveness for not always being the Body of Christ that You have called us to be for such a time as this. Have mercy upon us as a state for our times of unintentional neglect of Your call, and at times open disobedience to Your Word. We believe and receive Your forgiveness for our sins.
Not walking in Christian Maturity (Business Mountain)
“Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.” 1 Th 5:19-22
Incredible Father, renew in us a commitment to be a force for justice, and forgive those who continue to commit injustices. Forgive us for caring more about our own comfort and convenience than we do about caring for those who are oppressed in our state. Stir in us a passion to be a force for good in the lives of the children in Oregon who go to bed hungry at night. Forgive us for the high divorce rate that has impacted two generations and threatens to affect a third generation.
PRAISE: “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” Ps 150:6
Praise God (Additional Prayer Focus – Business Mountain)
“Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” Ps 150:1-6
Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. Great and marvelous are Your actions, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are Your ways, King of the nations. Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your Name? You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous deeds have been revealed.

“The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.” Is 40:29
Father, You are our Creator, our great God and King above all kings. You merely spoke and the heavens were created. You breathed the word, all of the stars were born, You counted their number and called them all by name. You assigned boundaries to the seas and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. The earth is Yours, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to You. You laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. You are the King of glory. You are strong and mighty. We proclaim Your unfailing love in the morning and Your faithfulness in the evening. As the heavens are high above the earth, so great is Your mercy toward those who fear You. Let all the earth fear You, Lord. Let all the inhabitants of the of the world stand in awe of You. Hallelujah!

God’s Son – Jesus (Education Mountain)
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Lk 19:38
Lord Jesus, You are King! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest islands be glad. Clouds and darkness surround You. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne. A fire goes forth before You, and burns up all Your foes. Your lightning flashes out across the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before You; before You, the Lord of all the earth. The heavens declare Your righteousness; every nation sees Your glory. Those who worship idols and brag about their worthless gods are disgraced, for every god must bow to You. All the cities of Judah are glad because of Your justice, Lord! You, O Lord, are most high over all the earth. You are exalted far above all gods.

Lord, we declare that we are a state with Your Son Jesus Christ as Lord over all.

We decree that as residents of this great state, we will walk in your ways with humility and gentleness, believing all things, hoping all things, enduring all things, bearing with one another in love. We proclaim the unity through Your Spirit and the bond of heavenly peace. We will let our light shine so that people will see our good works and glorify You, Heavenly Father. Your peace will be within our walls, and prosperity will be within our houses. We will dwell in peace in our homes. We believe that our safety is in You. We declare that the citizens of our state will not fear, but will trust in You, Lord. We will not fear, because You are with us; we will not be dismayed, for You are our God. We proclaim that You will strengthen us and help us, upholding us with Your righteous right hand.
Call to God’s people (Media Mountain)
“Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, “Give them up!” And to the south, “Do not hold the back.” Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth.” Is 43:7
We declare that You are Commander in Chief of the armies of Heaven, and that Oregon is Your state. We put on the full armor of God – the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, boots of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. We thank you and praise You for the angels you have sent to protect us and deliver us, encamping around those who fear You. Thank you that You have given angels charge over us, to keep us in all our ways. We are grateful that they excel in strength, do Your word, and heed the voice of Your word. Thank you for both preceding us and following us in battle. We decree that the battle over Oregon belongs to You, Lord!
Healing and Victory (Media Mountain)
“But for you who fear My NAME the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. Then you will trample down the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things,” says the LORD Almighty.” Mal 4:2-3
Triumphant Father, as a people, we stand in the authority given to us and speak to the economy of our state and nation. In Jesus’ name, we proclaim that our economic growth will be sustained and steady. We acknowledge You are our Provider and our Source. We command justice to run down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream within our economy. We declare that the people of our nation will live in accordance with Your commands, and we will reap the fruit of our labor. We destroy assignments of the enemy in foreclosure, bankruptcy, and financial loss, and attempts to steal, kill, and destroy. We declare that Jesus Christ has come that we may have life, and have it more abundantly. We declare that we depend on You for our sustenance, and that You are stabilizing our economy. We cancel every confession and proclamation of recession and economic ruin that has been spoken over our land, in the name of Jesus. Father, we boldly call for new beginnings, increase, and abundance for our nation’s economy today. Father, You have given us a promise for economic provision through Your covenant with Abraham. As his heirs, we stand in fulfillment of that truth today. We decree the fiscal health of Oregon is strong, stable and vibrant. We praise Your holy name. Father, continue to help the economy of Oregon. We admit that we have not always been prudent or wise with our finances. Please break the bondage of conspicuous consumption over our city. Show us how to be more disciplined and better stewards of the resources You have blessed us with. Remind us to count our blessings and be content with what we have instead of always wanting more. Holy Spirit, reveal godly economic strategies to our cities’ economists and financial visionaries that will bolster financial stability and security within a global economy. Father, there are many people in our state who are in financial trouble. Many need a miracle in their finances. Many need jobs. We humbly ask for Your divine intervention and provision for those in Oregon that are in need.
Strength and Salvation (Arts, Entertainment & Sports Mountain)
“The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.” Ex 15:2
God, we declare that all will see how great You are. We declare that Your name is above all names, worthy of all praise. How great is our God! Omnipotent Father, Your Word says to pray for our leaders so that our lives will be peaceful. In accordance with Your Word, we ask You to lead and guide all of our local, state and national leaders. Fill them with Your wisdom, knowledge, confidence, and peace. Help them in their personal and professional lives to make decisions that align with Your will for our state, and nation. Bless all of our state officials and public service personnel, including the governor, the legislators, judges, law enforcement officials, and emergency response teams. Show them how to lead us with honesty, purity, and integrity. Strengthen all of them, and keep them healthy. Bless the works of their hands to meet the needs of our state and nation. Holy Spirit, bless our schools. Help educators to remain committed to their educational calling. Increase their creativity and innovation to teach our students. We ask You to touch the hearts of our local, state, and federal legislators to increase funding and resources that are needed for school systems and institutions of higher learning. We welcome Your Holy Spirit in the classrooms and corridors of our schools. Lord, increase the capacity of our students to learn, comprehend, and excel in all areas of education, including reading, writing, mathematics, sciences, athletics, and the arts. As a multicultural state, we pray for unity between us as diverse students learn side by side. We pray that educators and students will seek Your wisdom before all else; not to be wise in their own eyes, but to fear You as they follow Your Word. We declare that members of the next generation are rising up to become church leaders – apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers; worship leaders, writers, and community leaders who follow after You, leading others to pursue Your Son Jesus Christ. We declare victory over the children of today who are the intercessors of tomorrow. Show us how we can encourage the next generation to speak and act with power and authority in Your name as they grow in You.
Future generations will Praise the Lord! (Arts, Entertainment & Sports Mountain)
“Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD.” Ps 102:18
Holy Father, thank you for the gift of our families. Thank you for speaking love and grace into our homes. We declare that you are restoring stability through Your wisdom and mercy. We declare that Your presence will provide joy and peace in our homes. We declare that husbands will love their wives as Christ loves the church and wives will respect their husbands. We decree that husbands and wives are strong in the Lord and they lead their homes with God-confidence. We declare that fractured families will be restored, that marriages will be made whole, and that Your forgiveness has been released. We decree that single moms and dads can do all things through Christ who strengthens them and they will lead their homes with God-confidence. We pray for the many fatherless homes in our state. We declare that Your guidance and presence as Father will provide their very needs. We decree that our children will be successful everywhere and an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. By faith, we confess that they are obedient to authority, for this is right in Your sight. We confess that no weapons formed against our families will prosper and that You will reign supreme in our homes and in our family relationships. We trust that the next generation will not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of their minds, that they may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect before Your will. Righteous Father, may our sons, who are planted in Your house, flourish in the courts of You our God. May our daughters, clothed in Your gold, be positioned as Your royal daughters of favor within the palace. May our prodigals return, and may our arms be outstretched as we receive them with joy. Pour out Your Spirit on us, as our sons and daughters prophesy, seeing Your visions as old men dream dreams. May there be no enemy breaking through our walls, no going into captivity, no cries of alarm in our town squares. We decree that we will experience joy in our state because You are our Lord! May You look upon us and smile with favor on us. May Your ways be known throughout the earth and Your saving power dwell among Oregon and the northwest.
Hear the Word of the Lord (Arts, Entertainment & Sports Mountain)
“Earth, Earth, Earth, hear the WORD of the Lord!” Jer 22:29
Father, we declare that as Your Word is spoken, it will move swiftly and save the lost in our city. We declare that people will be arrested by Your presence. Let awakening be released, in the name of Jesus. We declare a God awakening that arrests people as they’re going to the marketplaces, as they’re going to their jobs, as they’re going to their schools, as they’re going to their homes, as they’re sitting at tables as families – sudden restoration and reconciliation in families. Person upon person, family upon family, community upon community – we welcome Your spirit as hearts turn toward You. We declare that as people confess with their mouths Jesus as Lord, and believe in their hearts that You raised Him from the dead, they will be saved. Father, we decree that they will know the truth and the truth will set them free. We declare that Your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. We confess that we have sinned before You, but we believe that You are faithful and just to forgive us of all our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. We believe and receive for eternal life through faith in Your Son Jesus Christ. We confess that in Jesus Christ, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of Your grace. Father, we ask You to clear the way so that Your gospel may be preached in our state. Since the harvest is plentiful, please send laborers to proclaim Your Word of salvation. We lift up those we know who have yet to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior. Father, as Your Word goes forth, touch the hearts of the unsaved to receive Your gift of salvation. Remove the darkness that keeps them from seeing You and receiving You. Father, use me as an answer to this prayer and give me Your courage and boldness to talk to nonbelievers about Your love and salvation.
